It’s the first Major of the beach volleyball season party that nobody wants to miss out on. Not since the Swatch Beach Volleyball FIVB World Tour Finals of 2015 has international beach volleyball action graced the stunning Florida coast, but during February 7-12 2017, the world’s class athletes will gather again to fight for the first Swatch Major Series title of the season!
Bigger. Better. Beach Volleyball. It is faster, a lot more thrilling with 27 new partnerships on the rise to make a name for themselves ahead of what promises to be a bigger and better season on the sand court. Out of the sixty-one teams that have put themselves forward in the women’s roll up, seventeen include experience from the Copacabana at the Rio Olympics 2016. Larissa and Talita will be competing back-to-back wins in after dominating the game in 2015, which included winning the Swatch Beach Volleyball FIVB World Tour Finals in 2016. For the men’s teams that is out to win, here are some jaw dropping spoilers. Among many new teams hosting USA, this includes Jake Gibb and Taylor Crabb and Casey Patterson and Theo Brunner. What is more of a major #FTLMajor shock, 2016 Swatch World Tour Finals silver medalists and Rio Olympians Evandro/Pedro Solberg have split with both forming two new teams. Pedro Solberg teams up with up-and-coming star Guto – who we remember well following his silver medal performance at the A1 Major Klagenfurt. Evandro will team up with 22-year-old Andre who spent last season under the watchful eye of legend Ricardo. Another surprise split is Polish pair Grzegorz Fijalek and Mariusz Prudel. Fijalek will partner with Michal Bryl and Prudel will play Kacper Kujawiak.
Oh and let’s not forget there is an incredible USD 600,000 prize pool this time. This is the one tournament all the teams want to win. So who will be the golden crowned champions in Fort Lauderdale?
