In the opener of The Swatch Beach Volleyball FIVB World Tour Finals 2015 Spain’s Adrian Gavira and Pablo Herrera had lost to USA’s Jake Gibb and Casey Patterson just 24 hours after the Americans’ stunning defeat from Italy. Americans Lauren Fendrick and April Ross won an energetic 3-set match against the Spanish team of Liliana and Baquerizo (21-11, 19-21, 15-9).
2. You like a sport where, you know, your team can actually win
Whatever team your country if from, then get behind and support your team. Because, out of the 61 teams in The Swatch Major Series tournaments #SwatchMajorSeries#FTLMajor that have put themselves forward in this tournament, 17 include experience from the Copacabana at the Rio Olympics from August last summer. It will be interesting to see revenge among the players.
3. You're looking for a hero
April Ross, Kerri Walsh Jennings, Nick Lucena. You know them all, and you should. They're all that good. Olympic medal good! You know who else is good? New duos Brooke Sweat and Summer Ross, Lauren Fendrick and Sarah Hughes (both USA).
4. Building New Teams
Beach volleyball fans will get a chance to see new teams playing together in The Swatch Major Series #SwatchMajorSeries#FTLMajor. 24 teams are in the main draw, but half of them are new! There are two wildcards lined up to play from team Germany, Karla Borger with Maggie Kozuch. Kozuch is new and we will see her debut with Olympian and Swatch Major Series Karla. Team USA includes Lane Carico/Irene Pollock. German Olympic champion Kira Walkenhorst is playing with Julia Groβner in the absence of Laura Ludwig, who is sitting out with a shoulder injury. American teams’ are making a debut are Americans Summer Ross, Brooke Sweat, Lauren Fendrick and rising star Sara Hughes with Kelly Claes which will be going for victory on the Florida sands. You will see new Austrian beach volleyball players Stefanie Schwaiger/Katharina Schützenhöfer, while Brazilian fans will get to see new partnerships of Agatha/Duda play on the sand. Canadians Heather Bansley/Brandie Wilkerson are joined by new teammates Taylor Pischke/Kristina May. Rio Olympic Jake Gibb has teamed up with with Hawaii’s Taylor Crabb. Rio Olympic Casey Patterson will team up on the sands with Theo Brunner, Nick Lucena’s former partner. Trevor, the older Crabb brother, has teamed up with Sean Rosenthal – former teammate of Phil Dalhausser, with an exciting 2014 season winning him five medals from 10 events, which included three golds.
